Read Then Comment With Meaning – Ep 18
Reading is a form of listening. Many people listen long enough to hear what they want to respond to and then tune out until they can respond. Sometimes they just interrupt and take the conversation where they want to go. Reading to absorb the writer’s meaning is as important as listening fully to what is being said before responding. If there’s something you don’t understand, ask questions to get clarity. Let’s not be comment spammers.
Sidenote: Remember last week’s episode about my cat Hobo? Well this week I had to record twice. The first time was interrupted by her deciding it would be nice to just keep jumping on me while I was recording. We reached detente, she’s curled up on me while I record this time.

Keeping Up With Hobo – Ep 17
For all her mischief making Hobo is a good companion. At her better times she exhibits all of what makes a good friend. I’m grateful she bounced off my door on that cold October morning to announce her presence. Animals can be wonderful companions when we learn to adjust to their personalities like we do with our human friends.

Tailing A Loon Doesn’t Make You Crazy – Ep 16
We never know the influence we’ll have on another person. We can decide if that influence will be for good or not through our own actions. Our own actions is one thing we can have control over, not how they impact someone else. Taking time to pause and consider how you’re showing up in life can have ripple effects you never expected

Exploring Creativity Myths – Ep. 15
I consider myself a creative. In addition to writing and podcasting, I also create books like coloring books and journals. It took me many years to actually reach the point of viewing myself as a creative. The turning point came when I realized I could learn the tools I needed to express myself creatively. That I wasn’t required to be born with some mysterious creativity gene.

Blessings of the Heart – Ep. 14
The past year has been an amazing year. I physically leave my home less than at any time in my life. Yet, I connect with people who matter on a daily basis in ways I’ve not experienced before. The other day I heard someone say she’s never met most of us in a group. I almost corrected her to say she’s never met us physically but we truly have met in a very human way. Life can be amazing.

The Titanic Lesson in Hubris – Ep 13
While one of the most enduring lessons in the tragedy of hubris, the Titanic was not the last. It’s the nature of some to get so full of their own ideas they ignore the real consequences until they actually happen. Some things never seem to change no matter how much our knowledge expands.

Vimy Ridge Day April 9th – Ep 12
It would be nice to be able to say that the Battle of Vimy Ridge taking place during Easter had bore some fruit over a century later and the world was without war. I can say it, but it wont be true. World War 1 or the Great War as some called it ended with hopes that the horrors of war had finally come to an end. That never again would people take up arms against another on such a scale. Over a century later and still no end to man’s inhumanity to man is in sight. We can’t change the world ourselves but we most certainly can practice peace towards each other.

Where’s Emily? – Ep. 11
As a society we’ve constructed some rather sanitized views and rituals around death. Removing the evidence of death is one of them. Dad missed our mother and found comfort in knowing her remains were present, waiting for his time to join her again. Death is inevitable. Feeling some comfort about those who go before us is a good thing.

Benefits of a Personal Knowledge Base For Creatives – Ep 10
I wrote this post about a year ago. A year later, I continue to build out my personal knowledge base and adapt it easily as my needs shift without the need to rebuild. I love the flexibility of the system.

A Ministry of Small Kindnesses — Ep 9
Imagine everyone engaged in observing and responding to the needs of those around them? Quietly, unobtrusively, small kindnesses would just happen. We don’t need grand gestures to make a difference in people’s lives. Just letting them know in quiet ways they matter can go a long way.
Yes, that is my cat Tramp giving editorial comment in the background today.
